Planning an adventure holiday
“Adventure is worthwhile in itself.” – Amelia Earhart. Are you looking for an exciting holiday that lets you see the world from a different angle? An adventure holiday is a great way to explore a new location while ensuring you have awesome memories! Whether you’re travelling as a family or with a group of mates, an adventure break will only bring you closer together and there really is something for everyone out there.

If you’re new to these types of holidays, then the thought of planning one can be a bit stressful, so this blog will give you a few helpful tips on planning an awesome adventure break!

1. The first thing to consider is the group of people who are going on this adventure holiday and what their ages and levels of activity are. Are you travelling with children? A group of mates as part of a stag or hen party? Or as part of a corporate group looking to treat their staff? With children maybe canyoning and white water rafting aren’t the best ideas as these would be a little too adventurous for younger travellers. However, if you’re going for a stag weekend, then you probably want to try the craziest activities to see who has no fear! With regards to corporate groups, be considerate of activity levels and interests if your staff are all of varying ages.

2. How long do you want to spend on your adventure holiday? Do you want to try a different activity every day or take it at your own pace? If you want to wake up every day and throw yourself into something new, then multi activity holidays are a great choice where you might spend the first day cycling through a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the next canyoning, and the following day on a jeep safari through the forests! However, for those who prefer to rest when they feel like it and not be on the go all the time, then a more mild adventure holiday with a few days off might be more ideal!

3. A major deciding factor for any holiday is always where to go! How long do you want to spend on a flight? And how long do you want to spend on your transfer on the other side? As well as the time factor, you should also consider what activities can be offered in your choice location. If you’re at home in the water, then somewhere along the coast with awesome weather conditions is probably ideal, but if you love a mixture of all sorts of terrains, then an adventure holiday inland with forests, lakes and mountains might be more to your taste.

4. You always hope that you won’t need it but it never hurts to have some solid insurance in place – especially if you’ll be throwing yourself into lakes during a canyoning experience! This of course is also helpful for covering flights and luggage as well as your medical bills (should you need them – hopefully not!). Don’t just go and buy the first quote you receive though, as each company will vary slightly. It’s important also to read over the policies as some will cover you better for an adventure holiday than others.

5. All booked and ready to go on your adventure holiday? Think about what you’re packing a week or two before travelling to give yourself enough time to get all the essentials! While on a normal holiday you might pack a few shorts, tshirts and plenty of sun cream, there are a few other items that should make it onto your packing list when going somewhere to be a bit more active. Comfortable shoes and plenty of changes of clothes will be useful if you’re going anywhere near water or mud. You don’t want to have to spend all day in the same clothes you wore while kayaking! You might also want to take a rucksack as your carry-on as this will be far more useful during your whole trip than a handbag.
